The NCAA is quite firm about jersey regulations, but can also accommodate genuine requests. For instance, in the post 9/11 period NCAA allowed the American flag to be displayed on the basketball uniform. The area that NCAA identified on the jersey for this display was on the four-inch side insert.

The height of numbers on an NCAA jersey can be 8 inches on the back and 6 inches on the front. For youth, this height is 6 inches and 4 inches respectively. The names are generally printed in a one-color film, and have 2-inch high letters.

The jersey numbers have special significance for basketball players. They very often want to retain the number that they used in their college playing days when they move to professional basketball. For instance, Michael Jordan retained his college jersey number #23 when he moved to NBA.
